Security Officer Training

Training and Development

At Securitas USA, we know how important training is for our clients.  We invest in our employees because Our People Make the Difference!

Training plans are developed for each client, based on their specific needs determined by the security assessment and client agreement.  Progress can then be tracked against the training plan, regulatory requirements and client agreements, and reported to the client on a regular basis.  The Securitas Online Academy, Our industry-leading electronic Learning Management System (LMS), delivers our proprietary online training courses and supports complete progress tracking and reporting for all training activities.

Our flat organization keeps training officers close to the field, while supporting them with area and regional training professionals and the resources of a global organization.  The Securitas Center for Professional Development (SCPD) is our professional training management organization that supports the field with world-class programs, products and services, strategic business partnerships and security industry experts for improved performance and consistent training.

Security Officer Training

Securitas Security Officer training is delivered through a highly-effective blended approach utilizing classroom learning, on-the-job training and mentoring, practice and drills, self-study, and e-learning with our dynamic, proprietary online courses.  Security Officer training is structured into three-tiered professional development plans which include:

Level 1:  Introduction to Security

Securitas security officer introduction builds a foundation of basic security skills which all officers must complete before being assigned to a post.  All officers are fully licensed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations, including all mandated training, before being placed on assignment.  And each officer is given a handbook which they can use as their own reference guide for company information.

Level 2:  Site-specific and Advanced Training
Security officers go through on-the-job site-specific training which includes learning and demonstrating competency of the Post Orders for their assignment.  Securitas also offers Advanced Certification Training (ACT) which is our premier three-part training program which covers more than 30 security topics, from access control to workplace violence.  We also recognize that each industry brings its own unique
security challenges, requirements and regulation and have developed industry specific training programs for our security officers.  Employees that are required to drive while on the job must go through our Safe Driving Program and Emergency Response training is provided, as needed, by certified instructors, based on post duties and client agreement.

Level 3:  Professional Development
Securitas offers their employees the opportunity for ongoing development through e-learning and the Securitas Online Academy.  We also have a library of nearly fifty professional development courses which offer a wealth of learning opportunities in general business and management principals.  Resources in our training program includes proprietary material on terrorism and homeland security training as well as guidelines and courses from America’s front-line agencies including FEMA, American Red Cross, Department of Homeland Security, FBI, Department of Justice, ASIS and video courses from PSTN and LETN.

We also produce the monthly bulletin, Security Spotlight and the quarterly magazine, Excellence in Service that provide valuable training information and security tips for all employees.

Certified Security Supervisor Program

In security, supervisors are mission-critical.  That’s why Securitas USA created the Certified Security Supervisor program for our Supervisors and those preparing for supervisory responsibilities.

To achieve this distinctive certification, participants complete four core supervisory
courses within one year, plus additional courses in human resources and risk management, and e-learning courses in related subjects.  Each candidate also must complete all three parts of the ACT program, Securitas’ core security skills program, within six months, and successfully pass the final certification exam.

This combination of technical security training and practical management skills provides a powerful foundation for success – measured in client satisfaction and improved business results.
